Langford - BBC Series Race @ Town Of North Collins Highway Dept

This is a challenging course. Each section of the course poses its own challenge. After turn 1, you rise slightly, leading into a downhill towards turn 2. The long straightaway has a few small rollers on it, leading into a quick descent, right into a sharp little uphill at turn 3. Then another short sharp uphill takes you into turn 4, where you battle false flats and a headwind (typically) all the way to the finish.

Groadeo Spring Classic @ Tim's Farm
May 23 @ 10:00 am
Groadeo Spring Classic @ Tim's Farm

The Buffalo Bicycling Club proudly presents, for the first time ever, the Tim Williams’ hosted Groadeo Spring Classic bike race!

Tim has made outstanding contributions to the WNY cycling community for over a decade.  Tim is a legendary NY state USAC official; in the last two years, Tim has officiated 70 USAC races!  Without Tim, bicycle racing in NY wouldn’t look the same.  Additionally, Tim is currently serving his 10th consecutive year as VP of the Buffalo Bicycling Club.  To celebrate, he’s opening up his land to host a Memorial Day weekend bike race and cookout!  So come honor Tim being alive and well at the inaugural Tim Williams’ Groadeo Spring Classic race!

The Groadeo is the ultimate hybrid between a road race and a gravel grinder. This identity crisis of a course has all the features of an epic spring classic.

At the start, riders will find quiet paved rolling rural farmland roads.  As the peloton settles in, Williston Rd will begin to sneak up on you, with a ~1.4mile, 207ft elevation, 3%avg step-climb being the first test.  That will set you up for a left turn, with a rapid descent down Urf Rd for a brief stint through downtown Cowlesville.  When you turn south, you’ll find the first gravel sector 1: Reilein Rd (~1mile, 194ft  climb).  After that, you zig-zag, right onto Williston, left onto Blood, and left onto Sinn.  With road names like that, you know what’s in store next… gravel sector 2: Bailey Rd (~1.5miles, 115ft gained). Once back on Bear Rd, you’re in the closing miles.  If you’re not off the front by now, it’s too late, because it’s all downhill to the finish, so prepare for the sprint to the front of the cookout line at Tim Williams’ barn!

Post-event podiums and cookout will be at Tim’s. All participants, volunteers and guests are welcome to attend.

At turn 2, you make your way onto Rt. 78 and this is almost all downhill and fast, you then turn right (turn 3) onto Woodchuck Rd. which takes you to the final turn and the finish climb on 20A that finishes in front of EverFab. It makes for a long day in the saddle.

DO NOT PARK IN THE FIRE STATION LOT.

A relatively short course that will grind you down. There is one steep climb and one very quick decent that leads right into a sharp turn at turn 2. The climb, immediately following turn 3, is up Rice Hill. It is sharply steep at the bottom then eventually starts to level off. This is where the KOM points are awarded on course. The finish straight is completely flat, but near then end, has a slight rise & opens up from tree cover and almost always means a stiff wind to deal with for the sprint to the line.
