SUMMARY:Sunday Series Training Race: Strava Segment Group Ride
DESCRIPTION:You must be a member of the Buffalo Bicycling club (or the Niagara Frontier Bicycle Club) to participate.   Membership categories eligible for this: Full\, Rookie\, Junior/College\, Out-of-Town\, Group Ride/Workout\, and Cyclocross.  Not eligible: ——–.  To sign up for membership\, click here. \n  \nAll season long\, the BBC is partnering with the NFBC (Niagara Frontier Bicycle Club) for our group rides!  We expect a lot of road riders on our group rides of a wide range of abilities.  We will have A/B\, and C group leaders that will hold each group to a prescribed pace so everyone has a group to ride with.  Please listen to the instructions in the parking lot from our ride leaders and head out and stay together for a great ride!  This collaboration between the BBC and NFBC will get more of us riding together and riders from each club trying out the other. \nAs we head out\, this ride will have 4 uphill Strava segments that will be the designated fast segments.  We’ll ride to each as a group\, start the segments together and race to the top.  We’ll stop and regroup after each hilly segment.  For this ride\, the A and B groups will ride together so that all BBC and NFBC members can be scored properly\, followed by the C group.  This race will be scored based on your accumulated time across all segments according to your uploaded Strava file\, lowest time wins.  The C group will not be scored\, so it will be a fully cooperative group ride. \nScoring will be done that evening and announced Monday morning\, so please upload your ride when you get home.  While Strava is highly highly recommended\, if you do not have Strava\, please report your placing on each segment to a ride leader with the names of other members who finished next to you so we can give you an approximate time. \nParking:\nStart and Parking: Chestnut Ridge Park in the upper lot by the tennis courts. \nOur group ride this week is a 38-mile route starting from Chestnut Ridge that has 4 scored Strava segments.  Your cumulative time across all 4 on your Strava file will determine the final leaderboard! \nCourse:\nhttps://ridewithgps.com/routes/55575534\nhttps://www.strava.com/routes/3500537290102224700\nScored Strava Segments:\nThe 4 segments are: \nZimmerman to Shero (Co Rd 437) www.strava.com/segments/735526 \nBrown Bra Burner www.strava.com/segments/4860930 \nDrake Rd Climb www.strava.com/segments/678103 \nBoston Colden Cole (Co Rd 442) www.strava.com/segments/677813 \n  \nGroups: \n\n\n\n\nA Group \n(scored and riding in one group with the A and B)\nB Group \n(scored and riding in one group with the A and B)\nC Group \n(not scored\, separate start time\, and will have an NFBC leader)\n\n\nDistance\n38 miles\n38 miles\n38 miles\n\n\nPace\n18mph on the flats in between hills\n18mph on the flats in between hills\n16mph\n\n\n\nWhat You Should Expect on Race Day:\n\nPlease plan to arrive 30 minutes early to get into your riding clothes and get your bike ready\nWrite down your name on the sign-in sheet when it becomes available\nAt 10am\, we will roll out the A/B combined group together\, followed by the C group.  It is a group ride until we hit each designated segment to race\, then regroup.\nStrava\, while not absolutely mandatory\, is strongly encouraged for this so you can upload your ride later and be scored.  If you don’t have Strava\, please report each segment you do to the ride leader including the names of the people you finished next to so we can give you an approximate placing.  Scoring will be done based on the total accumulated time across all scored segments according to your Strava data\, lowest time wins.\n\nSunday Series Club Races Individual Scoring:\nThis race is part of the club’s two halves of the season with 4 races each. SUMMARY:Thursday Night Fireball Crit Series
DESCRIPTION:This event is a Buffalo Bicycling Club race. You must be a member to participate. Membership categories eligible for this: Full\, Rookie\, Junior/College\, Out-of-Town.  Not eligible: Group Ride/Workout or Cyclocross. To join\, click here. \n  \nOur Thursday Night Fireball series stages on criterium training course on Grand Island.  This will be a scored series\, separate from the Sunday Series Club Races.  Our course is linked below\, a 1.9-mile circuit with 3 corners.  The A field will do 9 laps for 17.1 miles (about 37-40 minutes)\, and the B field will do 6 laps for 11.4 miles (about 27-30 minutes).  Come out and practice cornering\, top end fitness\, and race tactics to help sharpen your handling skills and racing craft!  It is important\, especially for newer riders\, to get out to these as much as possible to develop skills. \n  \nParking:\nPark at the small parking lot just outside of Beaver Island State Park on West River/West Oakfield Rd.  Many members generally ride to this location as free parking is limited. \nMeet up at the Finish line at the corner of West River/West Oakfield and Ferry Rd \nCourse:\nClick Here to View the Course Page.  A 1.9-mile flat criterium circuit loop with 3 corners\, excellent for practicing cornering and tactics!  Finish line on the corner of West River/Oakfield and Ferry Rd. \nSchedule:\nThe B field will start first at 6:30pm for a 30 minute race \nThe A field will start last at 7:05pm for a 40 minute race \nWhat You Should Expect on Race Day:\n\nPlease plan to arrive 30 minutes early to get into your riding clothes and get your bike ready\nWrite down your name on the sign-in sheet when it becomes available\, head out on the bike get a few pedal strokes in the legs to warm up.  SIGN IN IS AT THE FINISH LINE AT FERRY RD AND WEST RIVER\nWe’ll start the B group first for a 30 minute race\, and the A race after for a 40 minute race according to the amount of race laps noted in the Course Description\nAt the end\, make sure you know your finishing place and report it to the event organizer\n\nThursday Night Fireball Individual Scoring:\nThis race is part of the club’s 10-race Fireball Series. SUMMARY:USAC Sanctioned Race: Freedom Run Winery Road Race
DESCRIPTION:This is a big USA Cycling Sanctioned Event of our local calendar!  This is a completely separate event from your Buffalo Bicycling Club Membership and must sign up through our link on Bikereg.com here! \nThe Freedom Run Winery Road Race is a USAC sanctioned race \nParking:\nPark at Freedom Run Winery in their barn parking lot\, not the main parking lot (this will be marked on race day).  Address: 5138 Lower Mountain Rd\, Lockport\, NY 14094 \nCourse:\nThe course is a 6.15 mile loop with 214′ of elevation gained each lap. There is one steady climb that is 0.5 mile long\, gaining ~100′ elevation\, with a 4% average grade. The remainder of the course is mainly flat with some false flat sections on the finishing stretch. \nStrava segment HERE\nWhat You Should Expect on Race Day:\n\nA USA Cycling Sanctioned race requires more preparation.  Please plan to arrive 60 minutes early to get into your riding clothes and get your bike ready\nHead over to the registration tent to get your race number and pin it on your jersey according to the instructions\,\nhead out on the bike get a few pedal strokes in the legs to warm up\nLine up in the Taylor Road Park parking lot 5 minutes before your Category’s race time.  Your race will begin at the sound of the chief referee’s whistle!\nAfter your race\, head back to the parking lot to check on the results.  You have a 15-minute protest period until results are official.  Follow the instructions of the chief referee.\n\n  \nMarshalling a Race\nWe always need volunteers to score our races!  If you volunteer to be a scorer/timer for a Sunday Series club race yourself\, you’ll get 10 points towards your Sunday Series standings at that race!  You can do this up to 2 times per season.  Please note that one marshal or mentoring duty is required this year for your club points to count!  Sign up to marshal here. \nMentoring the B/C Race\nWe’re always looking for B/C-race mentors!  If you are an A level rider with experience and would like to help out the B/C race with in-race coaching and work on tactics\, we’d love for you to help!  As a token\, you will get 13 points for mentoring the B/C race one time during the season.  Use the marshal sign-up link above. \n

There are six videos that you can watch at your own pace but all videos and the quiz must be submitted prior to On-Bike Skills clinic\, June 29th.\n\n\nOn-Bike Skills: Day 1 (Saturday May 24th)\, we’ll meet at 9am at Beaver Island State Park and from 9am-12pm\, Peter Cummings will teach the group a range of skills including cornering\, braking\, pacelining\, and much more!  We’ll use the lot at Beaver Island as well as a short circuit course used for BBC Thursday Night training races nearby for practice.\n\n  \nWhat should I bring?  Please bring everything you would need to ride and race your bike (road bike\, helmet\, shoes\, riding clothes\, air pump\, saddle bag\, water bottles\, food) to both the clinic and the practice race. \n———- \nDo I need a racing license?  No\, you can purchase a One-Day USAC license at checkout for $15 if you do not currently have a USAC racing license.  If you are a Cat 4 with a USAC racing license\, you can earn 2 USAC upgrade points for completing the videos\, submitting the quiz (1 point)\, and attending the clinic (1 point)! \nAfter you register for the Skills Course on BikeReg\, Peter Cummings will reach out via email to provide you access to the online videos and quiz. To join\, click here. \nCLUB CHAMPIONSHIP\nThis race is also the Buffalo Bicycling Club’s championship! The annual champion’s jersey will be awarded to the first club member in the following fields: A Men\, A Men Master’s 50+\, A Women\, B Men\, B Men Master’s 50+\, B Women\, and Junior. The first Full BBC member to finish in those championship races will be crowned the club champion for the year.  They will win the club champion jersey to be worn at Buffalo Bicycling Club road events for the next 12 months! \nPodiums will be done at the parking site after the race. \nParking:\nPark at the Marilla Town Park Eastwood entrance\, 2433 Eastwood Rd. DESCRIPTION:This event is a Buffalo Bicycling Club race. You must be a member to participate. To join\, click here. \n  \nOur Thursday Night Fireball series stages on criterium training course on Grand Island.  This will be a scored series\, separate from the Sunday Series Club Races.  Our course is linked below\, a 1.9-mile circuit with 3 corners.  The A field will do 9 laps for 17.1 miles (about 37-40 minutes)\, and the B field will do 6 laps for 11.4 miles (about 27-30 minutes).  Come out and practice cornering\, top end fitness\, and race tactics to help sharpen your handling skills and racing craft!  It is important\, especially for newer riders\, to get out to these as much as possible to develop skills. \n  \nParking:\nPark at the small parking lot just outside of Beaver Island State Park on West River/West Oakfield Rd.  Many members generally ride to this location as free parking is limited. \nMeet up at the Finish line at the corner of West River/West Oakfield and Ferry Rd \nCourse:\nClick Here to View the Course Page.  A 1.9-mile flat criterium circuit loop with 3 corners\, excellent for practicing cornering and tactics!  Finish line on the corner of West River/Oakfield and Ferry Rd. \nSchedule:\nThe B field will start first at 6:30pm for a 30 minute race \nThe A field will start last at 7:05pm for a 40 minute race \nWhat You Should Expect on Race Day:\n\nPlease plan to arrive 30 minutes early to get into your riding clothes and get your bike ready\nWrite down your name on the sign-in sheet when it becomes available\, head out on the bike get a few pedal strokes in the legs to warm up.  SIGN IN IS AT THE FINISH LINE AT FERRY RD AND WEST RIVER\nWe’ll start the B group first for a 30 minute race\, and the A race after for a 40 minute race according to the amount of race laps noted in the Course Description\nAt the end\, make sure you know your finishing place and report it to the event organizer\n\nThursday Night Fireball Individual Scoring:\nThis race is part of the club’s 10-race Fireball Series. There will be an ‘A’ and ‘B’ field scored at each race\, with additional separate scoring below. Points are awarded in each race by finishing place: \n1st = 15 points \n2nd = 14 points \n3rd = 13 points \n4th = 12 points \n5th = 11 points \n6th = 10 points \n7th = 9 points \n8th = 8 points \n9th = 7 points \n10th = 6 points \n11th = 5 points \n12th = 4 points \n13th = 3 points \n14th = 2 points \n15th and after = 1 point \n  \nFirst and Second Half of the Season\nThe Thursday Night Fireball season will be split into two halves for scoreboards reflecting a first half and second half of the season.  This allows for more focused leaderboard competition and a reset mid-season to start over to compete on a new leaderboard! \nFirst half of the Fireball season will be: \n\n4/23/2026- Fireball\n5/14/2026- Fireball\n5/21/2026- Fireball\n6/4/2026- Fireball\n6/18/2026- Fireball\n\nSecond half of the Fireball season will be: \n\n6/25/2026- Fireball\n7/16/2026- Fireball\n7/23/2026- Fireball\n8/6/2026- Fireball\n8/20/2026- Fireball\n\nYour best 4 out 5 races for each of the two season halves will count towards your standing for each half-season. \n  \nMaster’s Scoring\nWe are including a version of separate scoring for Masters Men’s 50+ racers!  Master’s 50+ will race in the A field and will be scored against the A’s\, but Master’s points will be pulled out into a separate Master’s leaderboard.  How does this work?  If Master’s 50+ riders get 4th\, 7th\, and 8th in the A race\, their 4th/7th/8th place points will go towards their Master’s standings.  They’ll be on the Men’s A leaderboard and the separate Master’s leaderboard. \nWomen’s Scoring\nWomen racing in the Men’s A field will have the same version of separate scoring as the Men’s Master’s 50+ above.  If women riders get 4th/7th/8th in the Men’s A race\, their 4th/7th/8th place points will go towards a Women’s A leaderboard\, as well as the Men’s A leaderboard. \nWomen racing in the Men’s B field will have the same version of separate scoring as well.  If women get 4th/7th/8th in the Men’s B race\, their 4th/7th/8th place points will go towards a Women’s B leaderboard\, as well as the Men’s B leaderboard.
