BBC February 2020 Meeting Minutes
March 11, 2020
BBC President’s Message
May 1, 2020

Dear Members,

As everyone is aware, the novel coronavirus COVID-19 has drastically impacted modern American life that we’ve become accustomed to.  The crisis continues to evolve quickly, hour by hour we’re learning more about the coronavirus and with that knowledge, our government is enacting restrictions to daily living to help protect the vulnerable members of our society.  “Social distancing” will help flatten the exposure curve, reducing the strain on our healthcare system.

The Buffalo Bicycling Club (BBC) has made the decision to prioritize public safety and intends to follow the guidelines set by USA Cycling to cancel all club events through May 3rd, 2020.  This will include the BBC monthly meeting (3/24/20), Mongi’s Maple Fondo (3/29/20), and Grand Island TT (4/26/20).

This decision certainly didn’t come lightly, but we would rather err on the side of caution to best protect our whole community.  As cyclists, we’re conscious of the benefits of healthy lifestyles.  For most of us without chronic medical conditions, the coronavirus may only pose a mild threat.  However, this is a new respiratory virus and the long-term effects on the lungs are still unknown. Therefore, as endurance athletes, it is not a risk we should minimize.

The BBC will diligently continue to monitor the crisis and provide cycling-related updates in the coming weeks. We hope to return to group riding and racing with you soon.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Long live the BBC,

Steven Mongielo
