February 7, 2022

Present:  S Mongielo, T Williams, J Thompson, E Haskell, T Robinson, G Cherr, C Knowles, C Schloop, G Ho, G Sipes, J Farrell, M Schneider

The meeting was called to order at 7:06

Members acknowledged the passing of Larry Reade- life-time member of the BBC, 11-time national champion, and tireless supporter of the BBC and bike racing in Buffalo.  Larry was a mentor and an inspiration to generations of racers in WNY and beyond, and we’ll all miss him dearly.

Old Business:

Treasurer’s Report:  Finances remain in excellent shape.  Treasurer Thompson reviewed the projected race costs.

Marketing Report- Flyers

Sweet, sweet bike shop flyers are being finalized for distribution to local bike shops.

Mentorship Program

The immensely successful mentorship program will return for a second season in 2022.  Frank Grillo will again lead the program.  For newer racers in the club, please be on the lookout for details on participating in this great program!

Club Zwift Rides- continuing in February

Not to sound like a broken record, but the immensely successful BBC Zwift rides have returned this off-season, with Frank Grillo again leading the effort.  Sundays at 9AM for those who are interested, we had 30+ riders join for yesterday’s ride.

Race Schedule/Event Calendar

The 2022 Event Calendar on the BBC website!  Your old favorites, new goodies, there’s something for everyone here.  Mongi’s Maple Fondo will start the season, followed by Spring Group rides, club races, skills clinics, new USAC races, your old favorite USAC races.  Wow!!!

BBC 2022 kit

The new club kits remain awesome.  Check out the traditional styling and a red/white/blue colorway, and the 50th anniversary retro kit.  Get the goods here

Race Support

There is overall satisfaction with last year’s level and quality of support. The club will continue to work with Sam Patch Promotions (Tony Sylor).

New Business

Membership

Club membership is now open on bikereg. We’ve made changes to streamline the process- primarily one category of “full” membership.  Marshaling sign-up is now integrated into the registration process.  New for 2022, each Marshaling assignment completed comes with a $40 membership refund. The more you marshal the more you save!

Also, note this important change from previous years: the BBC can no longer allow “non-members” to participate in BBC training races and events. Interested riders/racers must purchase a BBC membership in order to participate, with multiple options available such as the full membership, group rides/fondos only, out-of-towner, etc.). This “a la carte” approach will give members the option to select what best suits their availability and desired participation level.

New Member Programs

The club continues to emphasize efforts to appeal to new racers.  New member programs will include the mentorship program, club group rides/fondos/skills clinics, women only rides and training groups, and open membership on the BBC race team.

January Buffalo Bicycling Club Base Building Challenge (BBC2)- Final Results

Props to this year’s overall winners!

Julia Farrell- women’s category

Jon Suita- men’s category

In a deft display of technology, President Mongiello spun the virtual roulette wheel with Erin Haskell and Adam Wojcik also winning club jerseys!

There were many miles ridden, lots of hours in the saddle, and much base built!

Patch Business

A patch update was not provided, big news coming in March!

The next meeting will be held on zoom 3/7/22 at 7PM.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:28PM
